Most writers are also avid readers. It’s a part of how we learn the craft of writing. For me it’s also a part of how I enjoy life.
Right now I’ve got 6 books going, 4 nonfiction, and 2 fiction. The fiction are strictly for entertainment. The nonfiction for my own education—for my business and personally. The books in the picture above are among the many I recommend to writers.
Most of the time, I discover new books because someone else told me about them—the best advertising there is!
Today, I’m turning the blog over to you, dear readers. Post in the comments one or two books you recommend and why.

Hi Debra, It has taken a few days to sort through the books that have impacted my life. I settled on Handbook to Happiness by Charles Solomon. It might be called Handbook to Sanctification. I read it maybe 30 years ago and forgot about it. Then in 2015 it surfaced in my memory and I reread it. I thought these people know what I am talking. I had experienced it several years prior, but had not been able to put into words what had happened to me. I am now in the process of becoming a certified Exchanged Life counselor. Other than the Bible, this book has literally changed the direction of my life. Sheriena

Sounds interesting. What’s involved in being an Exchanged Life counselor? Back in 2010 I read The Knowledge of the Holy by AW Tozer. Another powerful book that opened doors into a deeper relationship with God. I recommend it a lot. It is also one of those books you can reread and learn something new every time you read it.

Tozer is good. I even heard him a few months back as the featured conference speaker on BBN which we get on ROKU.
Anyway, here is a link to Grace Fellowship Intl. that trains people to become exchange life counselors. http://gracefellowshipinternational.com/blog/ Click on the link – “counseling institute” and it will give you the particulars. Basically, it is attending or viewing an Exchanged Life conference, attending a 3 1/2 day workshop, listening and taking notes on about 20 some lectures, and a practicum. I have done the conference and workshop – in Tennessee. Yes, I, from southeast Nebraska flew out of Omaha to Chicago O’Hare and on to Knoxville where I had a ride the rest of the way to Pigeon Forge, TN. What an experience. Workshop was awesome hands on training. I’ve begun the practicum over the last year or so. Recently I purchased the lecture series and am about 1/3 the way through them.
Looking forward to the writer’s conference in Omaha in a couple of months. Sheriena

Hi Debra. I just bought a book my new author Janet K. Marks, and I can hardly put it down. Three Little Decisions is already changing the way I think. In her own words, “Three Little Decisions is an easy read that guides you through some of life’s bumps and bruises, using poignant stories, simple suggestions and ideas for overcoming those obstacles. Though reading a book about decision-making is easy, the challenge as always, is in the doing.”
We all have suffered bumps, bruises, and disappointment is life. Janet shows us how to change our attitudes three little decisions at a time. See her at janetremarks.com

Making Your Mind Magnificent has made a big impact on me. It taught me how the brain works and how to overcome the way the brain seeks to keep me from changing.
