God as CEO?
For most people that’s probably a revolutionary thought. It certainly was for me when I first heard it last year.
But making God CEO is the best decision I ever made for my business!
Owning your own business takes courage. After all, at a minimum, you intend for that business to support you and your family. Preferably your business brings in more than enough for the bills and your retirement. But it takes courage to step out and do it, so congratulations and kudos to all you business owners!
What Does God as CEO Look Like?
We often relegate God to the spiritual part of our lives and keep Him out of all other areas. If you call Him Lord and Savior, He is the CEO of every area of your life. You seek His wisdom and guidance in everything.
“But I don’t know how to hear His voice,” you might be saying.
Many times over I’ve heard writers say, “God has called me to write this book.” That means you are hearing from God!
“The sheep hear his [Jesus] voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” (John 10:3-4 NKJV)
God as CEO means you are spending time in prayer, reading the Bible for His wisdom and guidance, and sitting quietly in expectation of His answers as you ask Him your questions.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5 NKJV)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 NKJV)“The LORD directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.” (Psalm 37:23 NLT)
It Takes Practice
Like learning any new skill, this takes practice. He will lead you and teach you.
If you’re just starting your author business, appointing God as CEO is the best place to start. Running a business can be confusing and overwhelming. Having His guidance on what to do, what tools to use, how to manage the finances and more will give you peace of mind and keep you from being stressed out.
If you’ve been in business for a while, it’s never too late to put God in charge. Are you stressed out and working from sunup to sundown? Then you need to put God in charge before your health fails you!
Grace and Grind, an excellent book by Shae Bynes, gives practical guidance on how to make God CEO and follow His lead. She also hosts a podcast, Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur, about this. Check them out.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV)
I’m still learning to submit all decisions to God first as well as learning to more quickly recognize His voice. He wants us to walk by faith, which means He shows us a little bit at time, not the whole picture.
Take the first step, and then the next, and the next. God will amaze you with what He has for you and brings your way.
